francesca woodman

how have i not come across her work before now!

Some are self portraits, others she used other models. She committed suicide in 1981, sadly. I am intrigued by the images where the body is bound or covered, especially the last image. Without knowing of her work, I made a self portrait, a little over a year ago, where i bound myself tightly in fishing lure and stuffing cotton. here it is below.

designspiration

wao. ran across this designer's page while listlessly blogbrowsing, and after just a glance at the splsh page i am already sold on the concept/aesthetic going on here. as i am intrigued (and am an amateur) at textile design, it is brilliant to see a number of creative medium collide in the latest entry, Let It Be, on the website of MAGNHILD DISINGTON.

Face Research

I came across an interesting site via BLOGLESS, Face Research, which allows registered users to partake in facial attractiveness experiments. The interactive demo lets you create 'average faces,' in the likeness of Sir Francis Galton's composite photographs, which he used to identify human types by averaging the facial features of a certain demographic of people.

The site has an array of portraits to choose from to make an average face, so I selected the faces I found the most attractive. Here's the first average I made to my liking.

You can also upload your own faces to make it more interesting.

TRYING TO DANCE
I’m always looking for presence.
Whenever I try, my doubts get unmasked.
Easier then to stick with absence.
I’m not trying to prove anything.
I dont have that many memories yet.
